I don't understand why Unreal Tournament 3 got ragged on like it did.
It's not the original Unreal Tournament, sure. But it's still a damn awesome FPS. For some reason no one wants to play it though and it's hard to find a server with actual people on it. What happened? Has this type of FPS fallen out of favor or something?

Halo, CoD, blah blah blah overshadow old faves like Unreal.
Ah how could I forget things like Team Fortress 2?!

Because UT favours duel games, and it's a shit duel game.Surgo wrote:I don't understand why Unreal Tournament 3 got ragged on like it did.

I'm not sure if I do either.Surgo wrote:I don't understand why Unreal Tournament 3 got ragged on like it did.
It may suffer the same problems of other UT games, in that it's basically nothing more than a tiny incremental improvement. But that never bothered anyone (other than me) before now. And it is the best of the batch of tiny incremental improvements.
It even agrees to run without major issues on my computer, something which other editions for inexplicable reasons have historically refused to do.
Maybe it's really transfered hate for it's evil online activation bullshit where I have to create and log into an online account to even be able to save my fucking single player campaign progress.
Indeed I played it at a lan recently using my purchased copy and people couldn't even change from the default player name without having an online account, so it was just my username vs a bunch of indistinguishable "Player"s. Sort of like "well let you use this at LANs but not without saying "FUCK YOU!"". That sort of shit has GOT to hurt sales for a largely social game.

I watched the demo version of Super Mario Galaxy 2. The first one doesn't particularly impress me, but the sequel looks amazing.

Your freedom to add and change rules in the middle of the game is in direct conflict with my ability to understand that rules system before I decided whether or not to join your game.
In short, your entire post is dismissive of not merely my intelligence, but my agency. And I don't mean agency as a player within one of your games, I mean my agency as a person. You do not want me to be informed when I make the fundamental decisions of deciding whether to join your game or buying your rules system.

I'm not even unsurprised. I expect that everything Blizzard announces will be out over a year later than planned.RandomCasualty2 wrote:I'm entirely unsurprised. Just tag an extra year to your expected release date, and you'll get less angry. No big deal.
Well, Blizzard did nuke the dev lab 3 years ago that developed StarCraft, which was okay by my, I didn't like the guys. Also, they have limits on the amount of money they're allowed to spend outside of WoW - WoW's unexpected costs in support once it was out canceled several of their plans to move developers to new projects.
SC 2 is very important to their position in Asia, so they focus very closely on it. But has it been given a release date? I thought it had...
Anyhow, the bigger your pile of money gets the more people who get to have veto say in how it is spent. Which often means delays and cancels instead of releases. Bad releases kill a franchise, but cancels seem to do less damage... But it seriously dispirits core fans and devs.

I was quite enthusiastic about Starcraft 2 until I heard it needed online activation. I rarely play multiplayer games and the gaming PC is generally completely without an Internet connection. Of course, since Left 4 Dead killed the PC, I don't really have to worry about that for a while. I'll just have to use something for a sci-fi mass combat minigame.

I know I've been bitching a lot about Chrono Cross but I do have to admit that it brought me some joy.
One of my buds was asking for a list of DS games that he should get and the Chrono Trigger remake came up.
It doesn't take much to warm the cockles of my black, salt-packed heart.

Me: I really think you should get that way. They introduce a totally awesome plot point from Chrono Cross into it.
George: *eyetwitch* Oh really? What was it?
Me: You remember the Fall of Guardia?
George: Yeah?
Me: Well, it turns out that the person who kills Chrono and Marle then overthrows their kingdom is none other than Dalton.
George: ARGHFAMOTHERFUCKERDALTON--*unintelligible gibberish*

Here's what Dalton did, MGuy:
Crono and Marle get killed in the future (offscreen of course because Chrono Cross sucks monkey fuck) after the fall of the capital Guardia. In the Chrono Trigger DS remake it's revealed that Dalton is raising a secret army to assault Guardia. Put two and two together.
